October 4, 2024: Life Lessons

"The unexamined life is not worth living." – Socrates

As we grow in age, we should also continually grow in knowledge and in wisdom. Life has many lessons to teach us. Since life is short, and we don't have enough time to make all the mistakes ourselves, it is imperative that we not only learn from our own mistakes, it is also crucial that we learn from the mistakes of others. A healthy curiosity should be a central driving force in each of our lives. The desire to know and understand how things work and why they work the way they do, is central to any life that is fulfilling and interesting. Here's a quick life lesson: if we desire to be an interesting person, we must develop an active interest in life and what goes on around us. Otherwise, we probably will not be very interesting to be around. Just think about someone you know who is interesting. Then think about what is it about them that makes them interesting to you. Whatever conclusions you come to as to why that person is interesting, those characteristics provide an outline for you, of things to improve upon if being interesting is something you would like to be. Life doesn't keep secrets. It openly shows us, if we are paying attention, how things work. Happy people, display characteristics of happiness; good attitudes, positive outlooks, optimistic expectations. Successful people also have observable characteristics, such as being punctual, showing enthusiasm for what they are working at, being persistent, and determined. No secrets there. I guess one of the real lessons that life shows us on a regular basis is that there are basically two kinds of people; those who talk about what they're going to do, and those achievers who plan what they're going to do then write it down for easy reference and then get busy doing it. Which one are you? Which one are you? Which one?
