October 1, 2024: The Power of Practice

"When you practice, you get better. It's very simple."
- Philip Glass

We all know that when we want to become good at something, it is important to practice. Our baseball swing, our dribble, even our ability to text on our phones improves with practice. It has been said that "repetition is the mother of skill" and we all buy into that without realizing that those same principles that apply to something positive, something we want to get better at, those same principles apply to our bad habits. Wouldn't it be nice, if the power of practice operated only when we were trying to improve on something positive? Well, as we all know, we get better at whatever it is that we continually practice. That said, if we extrapolate from those last few sentences and apply them to our lack of decisiveness, our habitually doing less than our best, our less than desirable attitudes at work or school or home, the practice principal works the same. We get better at doing the undesirable. So why not get better at smiling instead of frowning? Speaking kindly instead of cursing? Doing our jobs the right way instead of sluffing off? Exceeding expectations instead of being trifling? Wow! Six months of being the better person that we could be, would transform each one of us into the magnificent human being we were put on this planet to be. Nothing is stopping you! Why not start your transformation today? Start today being a better you!
