October 7, 2024: Use the Power You Have

"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any." – Alice Walker

Many of us have heard the story of why a powerful adult bull elephant can be tethered to a simple rope and a wooden stake at a circus, and not pull it up and walk away. The story goes, that as a baby elephant, a heavy chain and a metal stake driven deep into the ground was placed around his ankle so that he could not pull it up. What he learned was that no matter how hard he tried, he could not pull up that stake. Once that lesson was learned, he could be tethered to a simple wooden stake that he could easily have pulled up, but because of his conditioning as a youngster, he would not even try. He knew it was impossible. How many of us are still tethered to limiting ideas we learned as young people; stifling ideas that we carried into adulthood? Undoubtedly, there were numerous things we could not do well in our awkward youth; things that our so-called friends or uninspiring teachers were all too willing to tell us that we could not do, or that we were not good at. As adults, we should now be mature enough and experienced enough to realize that there is a power within each of us so strong that if we learn to harness it, we can break free of the imaginary chains that can still limit the trajectory of our lives. That awesome power, that power, which, when harnessed and used to the max, can't take us to heights of achievement we would not have dared to ponder in our younger years . That awesome, indefatigable power is the power of BELIEF! Life is not magical! Life is practical! By working hard to increase our abilities, we will lay the groundwork, the foundation of a new way of thinking about and believing in, what we can do. We truly can do anything we put our minds to! I invite you to begin today cultivating a garden of belief within your life. Replace "I can't" with "I believe I can!" If you will work really hard to form the habit of believing in yourself, you will break free of the limiting tethers of the past as you gradually and patiently learn to use the power of BELIEF.
