June 30, 2024: Pre-Thinking Required

"If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else." - Yogi Berra

An abundant and happy life requires a lot of pre-thinking. Whether we are talking about a career, a relationship or life in general, it is pre-thinking that will enable us not only to find what we're looking for, but also recognize it when we get there. Too often we have not given enough thought to what we want from a career; our income goals, our prestige position goals, what management levels we want to achieve. In our relationships, what are we looking for? A temporary fling, building a true friendship that leads to a lasting relationship? A long-term career in some specific field, or using different job positions as steppingstones to our ultimate target? As someone queried long ago, "if we don't know where we are going, how will we know when we get there?" Deciding in advance what we want out of life, what we want out of our careers, what we want in terms of our relationships will take us a long way toward reaching those objectives. Hoping for the best is not good enough! We have to decide what we want and then decide that we are going to get it. Every aspect of our life demands specific, concrete objectives! If you are going to sing the music you were put here to sing, you better start composing some music so that the song that gets sung is one that you wrote and not one that you found written by someone else. Write your own song. Sing your own music. Do your own thing.
