June 21, 2024: Optimist or Pessimist?

"The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty."
⁃ Winston Churchill

How is it that two individuals experiencing or viewing the same event can have completely contrary reactions? It seems that, while the stimulus may be the same, the prisms of our lives, through which we view events, may be the determining factors in our assessment of whether we put a positive or negative spin on events. Our prevailing thought patterns are clear evidence of how we have thought in the past. Thinking positively is as much a habit as thinking negatively. Our thought choices in the past will largely govern which attitudes we adopt in current situations. We tend to perpetuate habit patterns, thoughts and actions due simply to the reinforcing nature of repetition. Ways of thinking, reacting or believing are not easily changed, but can be reset if our determination is great enough. Positive change requires great determination. Optimist or pessimist? It's your call!
