June 14, 2024: Critical Thinking

Education is the foundation of all we do in life. It shapes who we are and what we aspire to be.
⁃ Julie Payette

No matter who we are or where we are in life, critical thinking, and clear analysis of options, are crucial to good decision-making. In today's world with our ready access to information sources such as Google and increasingly, artificial intelligence, AI, the line between knowledge and information has become blurred. We must always understand that knowledge allows us to use information to make choices in pretty much every aspect of our lives. The ability to access the information is very important, but equally if not more important is our ability to massage and use that information to fit the situation to which we are applying it. That process is called understanding. Information without understanding is virtually useless. Our challenge in this rapidly changing world is to be sure to get understanding along with the information. Will this information age be a wave that carries us to heights we never dreamed of, or will it be a tsunami that will overwhelm and crush us in its wake? The jury is still out, but what will the verdict be for you?
