June 13, 2024: Self-Discipline Anger

Self discipline starts with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don't control what you think, you can't control what you do.
⁃ Napoleon Hill

The control of self, our desires, our feelings, our thoughts, our actions is the key to maximizing our potential! For some of us, the path of self-control is very challenging, and consequently, self-limiting. As a young man, I had a slow burning, but explosive temper. After a narrow escape from committing a homicide due to anger, I went for a long walk and had a long talk with myself. I made a mental plan for how I would handle any other anger situations in the future. My plan was simple. Anytime I ever again felt anger welling up inside me, I would just turn and walk away from whatever was causing the anger without saying another word. On more than Wilson one subsequent occasion, I have done just that; walked away without saying another word. That pre-Plan has served me well. I believe similar planning for other self limiting behaviors will also work. I plan to occasionally touch on this subject because it is so important. For now, I hope this brief meditation has been helpful. The ability to get ourselves to do what needs to be done in a timely fashion, is critical to both our self-esteem and our progress in life. Self-discipline-let's all make a concentrated effort to grow in this vital area.
