July 6, 2024: Good Bad Memory

"The weak can never forgive, forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

– Mahatma Gandhi

A good memory can be a blessing, or a curse. Likewise, a poor memory can also be a blessing or a curse. The ability to recall the name of every person who ever slighted me or mistreated me handcuffs me to those memories, and depending on how I carry them, they can be a heavy weight on my mind, my heart and my spirit. With a poor memory, those slights and hurts are barely remembered or totally forgotten. Our present day joy is too intimately connected to the creation of our bright futures to be sacrificed by clinging to past hurts. For many of us too much time is spent, peering in the rearview mirror at events that can no longer be changed. The lessons they provided were either learned or not. It is now time to focus on things that can be changed, that can be improved so we can build on the lessons of the past. We have two eyes in the front of our heads and no eyes in the back of our heads; making our creator's intentions for us clear. We are meant to live in the present, with an eye to avoiding stumbling blocks and identifying and using steppingstones. The present is the only workshop we have for building the future! So let's stay in the present and work to make it a great place to be!
