July 5, 2024: Positive Self Talk
"If you don't know your own worth and value then do not expect someone else to calculate it for you." - Rebekah Radice
Our view of ourselves is a great determiner of how high we aim in life. Some of us were fortunate enough to grow up in a family situation where we were encouraged to do well and perhaps learned that we actually could do well. Some of us were not that fortunate and maybe grew up not having a lot of confidence in our abilities or what might be attainable for us. Regardless of which type of soil we started out in; fertile or toxic, as humans we have an incredible built-in ability to remake ourselves based on how we currently think about our possibilities. That is great news for anyone who seeks to better their circumstances and maximize their personal achievements. We may have been fed a diet of negative pablum in our youth, but now that we have matured, we get to choose our own nourishing diet. Let's start with the idea that God didn't waste time making junk. God made you, therefore you are valuable. You were made to do meaningful and worthwhile things, so let's be clear about that. Positive self talk can take you from wherever you are to heights you may never have dreamed of. Here are a few positive self talks you can use for starters: "I coped with that." "I achieved that; I am getting better." "I handled that; it should be easier next time." "I can be pleased with the progress I'm making." "I did that well." "If I keep this up, I'm going to get really good at this." Now PRACTICE, PRACTICE PRACTICE!
