September 18, 2024: Good Health Good Sense

"Good health and good sense are two of life's greatest blessings."

—Publilius Syrus

Good health is a priceless gift; worth working hard for. Although most of us would agree with that statement, far too many of us do not take the basic steps necessary to maintain a healthy body, namely; eating foods containing the essential nutrients the body needs to maintain a reasonable state of health, getting a decent amount of restful sleep to allow our bodies time to repair themselves overnight and moving our bodies enough throughout the day that they remember how to bend and stoop and reach and lift sufficiently so that we do not injure ourselves with these basic activities. And, let us not forget the vital activity of doing our best to remain positive, even as challenging things come our way. If we do all of the other aforementioned and neglect this one, the value of those activities will be greatly diminished. Life really is a hoot if we will not put too much emphasis on the importance of any one irritating factor; because it is only a temporary situation that will quickly diminish in importance with the passage of a little time. Unfortunately, the realization that the situation that caused us to almost blow a gasket, in retrospect, is seen for what it is, small stuff. That realization comes after the event and our reaction, as we later reflect on the prior instance. If only we could do the reflecting before we blow up, our health and well-being would be greatly enhanced and probably our life expectancy increased. Let us not forget that it really is all small stuff. Now, go and enjoy your life and stay calm.
