September 16, 2024: The Bottom Line

"The greater your knowledge of the goodness and grace of God on your life, the more likely you are to praise him in the storm."

Lord, we sometimes struggle with what we think you want us to do. We are sometimes unsure as to whether some of our behaviors are good in your sight. Sometimes we even wonder if what we are trying to do is the right thing, or if it is what you would have us do with our lives. When we read your word, there are so many commandments and directives that we are often unable to truly discern what you would have us do with this precious gift we call life. There are a couple of verses that seem to boil down into what you earnestly desire that we do; Two concepts of what we need to do to be pleasing in your sight: First, you said that we were to have no other gods before you; not our cars, not our homes, not money, not sex, not sports, not anything should come before you. Secondly, you simply told us to Love our neighbor AS our self. In order to love our neighbor then, we must first learn to love ourself. Otherwise, we will have no idea of how to love our neighbor. So there we have it. We are to love God with our entire being and place him above everything else. And then we are to love our neighbor just as we love our self. Now you know.
