October 28, 2024: Love Doesn’t Hurt
"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own." -Robert A. Heinlein
What do you think? Is it OK to be in love with someone who is not in love with you? Or, should being in love be reciprocal ie. 50-50? Regardless of how you might answer these two questions my personal opinion is that being in love is more like a seesaw than a roller coaster. The seesaw basically requires that the people sitting opposite each other each contribute approximately the same amount of effort. Conversely, with the roller coaster, both parties could be experiencing the same level of emotion, opposite emotions, one could be intensely involved while the other was indifferent to the whole experience. In my humble opinion, regardless of the type of love you have or are experiencing, love should not hurt. I will say that again. Love should not hurt. Love is kind. Love is gentle. Love is patient. If your love is hurting you physically, spiritually or emotionally you should consider exiting that situation. We all need love. We all need to feel cared for and cherished, but love should not hurt. Any questions?
