October 14, 2024: Fail Forward

Failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of success.
- Ariana Huffington

Striving for achievement, advancement or success in life is the common lot of mankind. As we each work to reach the goals that we have decided are significant for us, it might be good to remember the analogy put forth by Maxwell Maltz in his 1960 groundbreaking, personal development book, "Psycho-Cybernetics" concerning how the path to success looks. He surmised that that path simulates the path of a torpedo fired from a submarine seeking out its moving target. The torpedo must continually make adjustments as it moves towards its objective. The track is anything but a straight line. It is more like a zigzag. In like manner, you and I must be willing to make adjustments and re-calculations as we move towards the things we want in life. Our determination and willingness to overcome the inevitable, temporary setbacks, will be the deciding factors as to whether our goals are reached. We must learn to persist until we succeed. There is no other way. Now you know.
