May 15, 2024: About Unchangeables

“If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou

Some of us still rail against things we cannot change. It's as if we somehow think if we fight it, our ability to change it may change. Does that sound reasonable? Does it sound rational? How can it possibly be sensible to argue against or about something we cannot change ? Here's the bottom line. Whatever it is we are wrestling with, no matter how long we tussle with it, we cannot change the fact that we have no power to change it. If we are to maintain our sanity and avoid stressing ourselves to death, we must inevitably accept whatever it is we are unable to change. In life, there are some things we can change. If they need changing, we should do our best to change them. Also, in life, there are things that, if they are changeable, they are not changeable by us. Those things we must accept. Your outlook on life, your health, and your happiness depend greatly on your ability to accept the things you can't change. It may not be easy to do, but the quality of your life and the lives of those around you, depend on you, deciding to accept the unchangeables in your life. That's just the way it is. Accept it, and then welcome a happier, more stress-free you.
