The quest for happiness doesn't have to be as elusive as it may seem to many of us. Sometimes we just need to take a closer look at ourselves to discover the reasons for the difficulty in obtaining it. My last four posts have each looked at some of the numerous obstacles to happiness. But, let me say right here, if you are determined to live a happy life and you understand that there might be some aspects of your personality or attitudes that you may need to adjust; if you are willing, for the sake of your own happiness, to work at making those changes, then you are on the way to attaining the joy you seek in life. On the other hand, if you take the stance that "the world just has to take me as I am because that's the way I am," happiness can still be yours, but you have reduced the number of places to attain it to a smaller number of niche groupings. The two primary issues I want mention today are jealousy and lack of trust. Regarding jealousy, I will state categorically that, in my personal opinion, there is nothing more damaging to a happy, healthy relationship than jealousy. Whatever the unresolved issues, they must be dealt with and resolved if there is to be any hope of happiness and a healthy relationship. Trust is a major requirement for a loving and caring partnership. Without trust, there is no foundation on which to build any thing meaningful. If either of those tyrants, jealousy or lack of trust are present in your relationship, I highly recommend getting the counseling you need so that your love can develop the roots needed to grow a mutually satisfying and happy life together. That's my opinion I would love to hear yours.
