Elaborating further on Dr. Dyer's noteworthy and I would say accurate quote, abundance is sometimes confused with happiness, and while the two are not mutually exclusive, it is absolutely possible to have either one of them without having the other; meaning you can be happy while you lack abundance, and conversely, you also can have abundance and lack happiness. In today's "me first" world, many people have placed far too much emphasis on getting things for themselves to the exclusion of meaningful relationships, only to learn that once they have all the stuff, they have few, if any, people they can trust with whom to share and enjoy it. Too many of us, treat happiness as if it is a place; somewhere where we arrive, and then are happy, and can now begin to live the rest of our lives with the happiness that we thought we'd find there. Sadly, those who treat happiness as though it is objectively available; separate and apart from who and what they are, eventually discover that the happiness they seek does not magically appear when they reach a certain economic station in life, or if a certain person is no longer in their life, or if they just got that employment position they have long coveted. In reality, happiness is not a place at all, it is a state of mind. No doubt, many of us know people who are or seem to be happy. Some of those happy folks enjoy economic success, while others are what we would call average earners. In either circumstance, they are enjoying happy, abundant lives because they understand that happiness is a state of mind. It is a state of contentment, regardless of outward circumstances. These are people who have made up their minds to be happy, no matter what life throws at them. What a lesson this can teach all of us! Happiness is not about what you have, but who you are and how you think. Class dismissed.
