July 10, 2024: Courage and Wisdom

"If you can't do anything about it then let it go. Don't be a prisoner to things you can't change." ⁃ Tony Gaskins

It takes a lot of courage and determination to change things about ourselves that need to be changed. If we are trying to overcome a tendency to procrastinate, forcing ourselves to "do it now," rather than putting it off, takes real determination and consistent effort which pays off if we are successful. Forcing ourselves to overcome a fear of being disliked, takes a lot of soul-searching and introspection before we can come to realize that other's opinions about us are more about them than they truly are about us. Their opinions about us are really none of our business. Problem solved. On the other hand, accepting things that cannot be changed by us, takes wisdom. Without wisdom we can waste a lot of our limited life, agonizing, and worrying about things which are out of our control. If something is in fact beyond our control, we really have no choice other than to accept it. Correction: we can become frustrated, angry, and anxious about it, which does nothing to change the situation, but can be very detrimental to our health and well-being. Wisdom says, things over which we have no control, should be accepted for what they are; things over which we have no control. The benefits of learning that lesson, are numerous and self emancipating. Accepting what we cannot change is both wise and healthy. Just do it!
