The great Ella Fitzgerald sang a song with lyrics that went "First you say you will and then you won't. Then you say you do and then you don't. You're undecided now so what are you gonna do? Those lyrics by Sid Robin describe how many of us operate our daily lives. We struggle to make up our minds about many different things; what outfit to wear to work, whether or not to go out with our friends on Friday night, which car to buy, and a million other things that keep us from being decisive and moving forward with our daily lives. With all of the important decisions we you have to make throughout our lives, it's little wonder that we are stressed out as we wrestle to make choices about things that are of little or no consequence in the grand scheme of things. What if we could just flip a coin to decide which outfit to wear? Or say, Eeny Meeny Miny Moe, one of you has got to go, while making trivial choices? Actually, I guess we could do those things, but that would make life too simple since we seem to thrive on stressing ourselves out. Stress is really bad for us in so many ways! Personally, I tend to put stress in the same category as worry. Both of these villains do nothing to help the situation. Likewise, neither is helpful to us. So my overly logical mind won't allow me to do much of either of these two. If there is something I can do about the situation, I try to do it. If there is nothing I can do about the situation, I release it to God. The lane I try to stay in is the one where I can do something about something. That other Lane is for those who want to ruin their health, their relationships, and lose their joy. If we can just stay in our lane, the one where we can affect change, a whole New World of joy and peace will be ours! Stay in your lane! Stay in your lane!
