August 19, 2024: Who’s Got You?
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life – it goes on."
– Robert Frost
There have been times in my life and probably in yours as well, when things were so dark, so hopeless that there seemed to be no way out. All hope was seemingly gone and there appeared to be no way forward. Like me, you also probably learned that with the passage of a little time and introspective thought, that what had been utter despair, gradually lessened in intensity and slowly became tenable. I brought this up to remind us of how, many of us can take what is truly a dire situation and mentally or emotionally turn it into something far too big for us to handle. It is that those crucial times, that we find out how deep and how solid our belief system is. I'm reminded of a classic line in one of the earliest Superman movies when Lois Lane was falling from an upper floor window of a high-rise building and was careening toward the ground. From out of nowhere, Superman swooped up, caught her and told her "not to worry, I've got you." Her classic response was one I've never forgotten. It was something on the order of "You've got me, but who's got you?" Since I am a Christian believer, I know who's got me. The question to be answered by the rest is, who's got you? Will your belief system sustain youwhen life's storms are raging? Who's got you? Now there's a question worth some serious consideration. "Who's got you?
