August 14, 2024: Get Off Your Butt

"There are no passengers on spaceship earth. We are all crew."
⁃ Marshall McLuhan

Some of us live as if we are observers of, rather than participants in life. On this exciting, sometimes perilous voyage called life, each of us has a responsibility to contribute something to the voyage. Whether or not we choose to do so is a personal decision. Some of us feel that inner tugging that seems to say to us there's something for me to do while I'm here and I'm going to find out what that is. Others have no such yearning and thus appear to just be along for the ride. The lives of those who feel a responsibility to contribute to life, seem to be more purposeful and therefore more joyful. Whether or not you feel like a member of the crew, you still have work to do for yourself, in particular, and for mankind generally. If you want to have a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging, a sense of accomplishment, then decide to get off the sideline and get into the game. Each of us has a calling; something that we were put here to do, whether it's something big or something not so big. Whatever that calling is, it is our responsibility, our challenge to find it and get to work on it. The voyage is not very long, so don't act as if you're going to live forever, because you're not. You can continue to sit on your butt and feel like life is passing you by, or you can pull out your lariat and rope some part of life and pull it in, shake it and make it give you what you want out of life. It's your call. We should all strive to be useful crewmembers on the good ship life. Get busy and do your part!
