September 9, 2024: What Legacy?
"The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy."
⁃ Kalu Ndukwe Kalu
What will be your legacy; left behind when you are no longer on the planet? Not everyone cares about leaving a legacy. I'm not sure I do either. But I have thought about, if I left one, what would I like for it to be? What would I want those who knew me to say about the type of person I was? Would I want to be remembered as Productive or Lazy? Friendly or Mean? Happy or Sad? Positive or Negative? Dependable or Irresponsible? Loving or Self-centered? Confident or Timid? Well, because, whether we like it or not, we are influential with someone; Somebody has taken note of who we've presented ourselves to be. Leaving footprints in the sands of time seems too grandiose, but leaving positive tracks on the hearts and minds of individuals we have known and loved, seems like a worthy aspiration. If we're going to leave tracks, and it is certain that we are doing just that, why not leave worthwhile tracks, even noteworthy tracks? Why not? What others think of us is not nearly as important as what we think of ourselves! Why not leave tracks that would make us proud of who we were. Just something to think about…
