September 27, 2024: True of False Beliefs?
"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
⁃ Wayne Dyer
Have you ever thought about how the things we think become the structure of our reality? Is something really true because I believe it is? Or, do I believe it because it really is true? Although these types of issues are not part of our day-to-day thought processes, from time to time, it might be a good idea to ponder such revealing questions. I only bring this up because when I hear someone make a statement like "I can't change the way I am," or "I can't let him or her get away with that!", or "I never finish anything I start!" I have to wonder if they really believe those statements. On a few occasions, I have attempted to challenge the validity of those statements at the time they were made. What I learned very quickly was that the ones making those statements truly believed, and were willing to vigorously defend what they were saying. I would just like to offer this cautionary note, that some of the things that we believe are true, are not true. Just because we believe something to be true, does not necessarily make it true. Likewise, something is not necessarily untrue just because we believe it to be so. Continually examining our belief systems and checking them against actual reality, is how emotional and intellectual growth occurs. As we self correct and continually re-evaluate our lives, we grow and mature so that self actualization and full appreciation of who we are and what we are capable of will manifest in our lives, and increase the level of contentment we can achieve.
