May 12, 2024: Power of Listening

There's a lot of difference between listening and hearing.
⁃ G. K. Chesterton

How many of us truly know how to listen? My guess would be, not enough of us understand the power that listening holds. In order to be joyful, we humans need a sense of self-worth. When we truly listen to someone, we convey to them how important they are to us. If we put that statement in the context of relationships with our spouses, our significant others, or our children, we can then see why actually listening, rather than thinking about our reply, is so important. If ever you wish to increase a person's value in their own eyes, give an attentive ear to whatever they are saying. Listening – a simple act containing much power to heal, and to convey to the speaker a sense that we see them as important to us. People who feel important are less combative and more congenial. If you want more peace in your home or your workplace, become a better listener. Listening shows respect!
