March 21, 2025 Make Your Life Count!

“I have one life and one chance to make it count for something… My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have to try to make a difference.” - Jimmy Carter

Listen to this meditation on audio:

There are innumerable ways to live a life. We can choose to live our lives victoriously; spreading sunshine as we go. We can choose to live it selfishly; grabbing all we can for ourselves. What kind of life have you chosen for yourself? Are you happy with your choice? If you had your life to live again, what changes would you make? Would you be more or less giving? Would you be more or less selfish? If we have been on the planet for at least a couple of decades, we've seen a lot of different folk; cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and frenemies. Which ones of these have we admired? Which ones have we shunned? How many of these possible role models have we found to be less than they appeared to be? I would be willing to bet that of all the people we have met in our lives, there are but a few who made a difference in our lives because of their encouragement, their humanity, or their kindness.
These are the people who have made their lives count by positively impacting our lives and probably the lives of many others. How about you? Are you making your life count by sharing your gifts with others? By inspiring and encouraging a friend or colleague who needs to be inspired. If you truly want to make your life count, make a difference in someone else's life. A smile for someone who seldom receives one, a pat on the back for a job well done, an encouraging word, a friendly hug. There is a life force, a light inside each one of us that needs to be shared. We make our lives count each time we bring a sparkle to the eye of a child, or we encourage a friend in despair, or we help a stranger out of some difficulty with no expectation of anything in return. It's the little things we do for someone else each day, that all add up to a life that counts. Let's all strive to live a life that truly counts.
