If you want to be happy, stay in your lane! Sometimes in life, we bite off more than we can chew and that's OK. Sometimes we are able to chew that overbite. And sometimes those experiences can expand our comfort zones or help us discover abilities we were not aware of. First of all, let me elaborate on what I mean by stay in your lane. To my fairly simple way of thinking, my lane involves those things that occur around me and perhaps happen to me that I can in someway affect the outcomes. For example, if my child gets sick, I can take her to the doctor. If my grandmother needs a new refrigerator that she cannot afford, but I can, I can buy her another refrigerator. However, if I am unable to afford a refrigerator or get someone else to supply it for my grandmother then, that kind and noble gesture is out of my lane. If I choose to stress out because I'm unable to supply the needed refrigerator, will that benefit Grammy? Nope. Will the stressing benefit me? Nope. That being the case, let me pose a question. Is it reasonable or sensible, or wise to beat myself up mentally or financially or any other way, and continue to rail against an obstacle I cannot move? Some notable person quipped some years back that "it doesn't make sense to beat our heads against a wall, hoping that it will turn into a door." If something is truly outside of your ability to change it, you truly only have one choice; accept the things you cannot change. In other words, stay in your lane, and you will be so much happier as you change the things you can and learn to accept the things you cannot change. Trying to do it any other way is not only going to rob you of your joy, it is also going to ruin your health. Stay in your lane!
