July 17, 2024: Thanks for Good Friends

"Be like a tree and let the dead leaves drop"
⁃ Rumi

On life's exciting and challenging road, we all pick up some hitchhikers from time to time. Some of them are only going part of the way with us, while some will make the total journey at our sides. The key here is to recognize that not everyone who hitches a ride on our life journey is headed where we are headed, so they will exit at an early point in the trip. There will be others who will make a major part of the trip with us, but will still not be going where we're going, so they too will exit. Only a few of the hitchhikers we align with will make the entire journey with us. Those will be the beautiful gems we call good friends. They will add spice, sparkle and richness to our lives as we reciprocate by contributing richness to their soil. It will take many years to determine which of our friends are of the Evergreen variety and which are seasonal. Those who shine when our lives periodically get dark, will be easy to recognize as evergreens. We should give thanks for both our seasonal and our Evergreen friends. Both have added nourishment to our life soil and who we are today. Thank God for good friends!
