January 8, 2025: YOUR LAST DAY!
"What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven't happened yet." - Ann Frank
Listen to this meditation on audio:
Sometimes it seems as if most of us live our lives as if we are going to live forever. We put off important tasks for later. We are going to resolve the conflict with a friend, a spouse or family member later. We are going to get started on an important project we've been putting off for another time, because we're too busy right now. We push so much into the future and unfortunately, a lot of those things we are gonna do could improve the quality of our lives: we're going to do more planning before we act, we're going to start eating right and exercising and a myriad of other things that we should be doing today. In other words, we procrastinate! Imagine with me for a moment how different our priorities would be if each one of us lived today as if it was our last chance, our last day, to get something done. Let's just walk around that concept for just a moment and let it marinate in our minds. Which of your to do list items would you do first? Which second? And so on. I can bet you that your priority list would drastically change from what it probably is right now. What we just did with this little thought exercise was, we artificially created an urgent situation. This type of exercise is one way to create urgency in our choices of activity. I wonder what would happen if each one of us created one day of urgency per week where we really acted as if that day was our last day to get something important done. It takes a real, a genuine sense of urgency to get the most important things done. The next time you have too much on your plate and you don't know where to start, ask yourself, "Which of these tasks on my list would I choose to do if this was my last day to get any of them done?" It's just an exercise, but it will help you get the most important things done on any day that you use it. Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you. Thanks.
