September 18, 2026 Everyone Has Hard Days
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.”
– Wendy Mass
Listen to, or read this meditation:
Have you ever had a day where everything seemed to go wrong? Maybe you woke up late, forgot your homework, spilled your lunch, and then someone was mean to you? Those days are the worst!
But here’s something that might surprise you: everyone has days like that. Even the people who seem really happy. Even the people who seem like they have everything together.
That kid who seems mean at school? Maybe they’re worried because their parents are fighting at home. That teacher who seemed grumpy? Maybe they didn’t sleep well because they were worried about something. That friend who doesn’t want to play? Maybe they’re feeling sick or sad about something.
We can’t see inside other people’s hearts. We don’t know what they’re dealing with. Everyone is carrying something heavy sometimes, even if they’re smiling on the outside.
This is why being kind is so important. You never know when your kindness might be exactly what someone needs. A smile might help someone who is feeling lonely. A “hello” might make someone feel noticed. Holding the door open might make someone feel cared for.
And guess what? You might have hard days too that other people don’t know about. Maybe you’re worried about a test. Maybe you miss someone who moved away. Maybe you’re just having a bad day for no big reason at all.
That’s okay! It’s normal! You don’t have to be happy all the time. Nobody is happy all the time. Even ice cream would get boring if you ate it every single meal!
When you’re having a hard day, it’s okay to tell someone. You can say, “I’m having a tough day today.” People who care about you will understand. They might even be able to help you feel a little better.
And when you see someone else having a hard day, you can be extra kind. You don’t have to fix their problems. Just being nice can help a lot.
We’re all in this together, trying our best. Some days are easy. Some days are hard. And that’s just how life works.
Action Step: When you see someone today, remember they might be having a hard day. Do one small kind thing for someone – smile, hold a door, or ask “Are you okay?” You just might be the sunshine they need!
