June 2, 2024: What is Success?
"Those at the top of the mountain didn't fall there. "
⁃ Michael Washling
So, you want to be successful. What would it take for you to reach your goals? A lucky break? More money? Friends in high places? Or, good old-fashioned hard work? Whatever your answer, once you achieve your objective, you are still going to have to work to stay there. As legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, once said, "The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary." What is this thing we call success anyway? In my salad days, I had the good fortune to do some part-time selling for a company called Success Motivation Institute, out of Waco, Texas. I was not very good at it, but the company's founder, Paul J. Meyer, had a definition of success that made sense, and it has always stuck with and guided me.
"Success is the progressive realization of worthwhile predetermined personal goals." By that definition, success is not a destination, but a journey. Here's wishing you the greatest possible success in your life journey.
