Single-parent families are not the only ones who struggle with parenting issues. Many two-parent families are in the same position. They too, have major challenges as they attempt to successfully raise their children. One of the stickiest issues in two-parent families occurs when there's too clear a delineation between which parent is the disciplinarian and which is the nurturer; ideally, both parents should share these in relatively equal proportions. The most important overriding concept in a two-parent family is that the two parents must absolutely work together as a team. Let me be very specific here. There is no circumstance under which a male child should be allowed to be intimidating or aggressive towards his mother! Dads, please hear me. Your son will learn how to treat women from the example you set, and the respect you require him to show to his mother. Mutual respect between parents, sends a powerful message to the children. Lack of respect also sends an equally powerful message. If you want your grandchildren to grow up in a loving home, your child learns what a loving home looks like from the parents. No matter what type of home each parent grew up in, it is the duty of each parent to work toward a nurturing and loving environment in which their children can blossom. Parents, remember this, your grandchildren have no say in what kind of parent they're going to have, but you play a major role in the kind of parent your child is going to be. For their sake, I pray that you want your grandchildren to have a loving, nurturing, and inspiring home life. It's in your hands. Please do your best!
