August 7, 2024: Learn from Missteps
"Do not look where you fell. Look where you slipped."
⁃ African proverb
Life truly is an awesome teacher. Our challenge is to keep growing and developing so that we can become awesome students. Throughout our lives, we are constantly making decisions. Some of those decisions are good ones and take us where we want to be. Other decisions may land us in predicaments that are less than desirable. Good decisions have lessons attached to them. Bad decisions also contain lessons for better choices next time. The thought process we followed prior to making the poor decision is crucial to getting better at making good decisions. Were we sure about our decision prior to making it? Did we have doubts or unanswered questions? Did someone else assist us with the decision? The answers to these and other questions may better prepare us for the decision-making we will face in the future. There are no guarantees that all our decisions will be good ones, but it's good to have a process for dissecting what went into the decisions that did not turn out well. This type of self analysis will make us wiser and better decision-makers in the future. Learning from our mistakes puts us in a better position to avoid repeating them.
