Romantic relationships are delicate matters. Two people, most likely from vastly different backgrounds, attempt to find enough common ground upon which to build a friendship-based romantic partnership. Here are three factors that will play a major role in the success or dissolution of this fledgling union. First of all, the level of Unselfishness exhibited by the two individuals will be key. The sweet dance of romance requires that each participant be able to sometimes take the lead but, hopefully not at the same time. The delicate interplay of give-and-take makes this crucial component all the more important. Then there's the Maturity-level of the individuals; here, I'm talking about finance and romance. Just as there is truth to the statement that opposites attract, and also truth to the old saw that like attracts like, as long as there is not so wide a gorge between the maturity-yoking of the two, the level of mutual Unselfishness should allow for resolution of the differences. The third and equally important factor is that of Caring. Because of the wide variety of possible parenting styles shown by the person or persons who raised us, the level of nurturing and caring each of us was shown, could be enormously different; resulting in adults who exhibit many, many different ways to express their understanding of caring for and nurturing another person. In this area of Caring, what each partner needs and what each partner is able to show is all-important to the long-term success of a healthy romantic partnership. To conclude, I would dare say that Unselfishness, Maturity and Caring are three of the most important pillars of successful relationships. What say you?
